Many Muslims in Canada have a notion that poverty and hunger does not occur here. And certainly not among Muslim Canadians. But the fact of the matter is that hunger does occur in Canada and substantial suffers are Muslims. In Canada poverty is not visible as in many countries from where we came from. But silent cry of help rises from cramped basements in densely urban neighborhoods. They are single mothers with children, recent immigrants, working poor. Some of them are highly educated and qualified.

I urge you please read the latest hunger report, published by the Daily Bread Food Bank Hunger Report. As yet there has been no effort to quantify Muslim population suffering poverty and hunger, but anecdotal evidence point to pockets in GTA where large number of Muslim poverty exists. We are looking for volunteers to help compile this statistics.
